Zhang Xi, Zhang Bichai and Feng Rui, three students from the College of Apparel of ZSTU won medals at the much anticipated 6th Cocoon Cup, China International Women s Wear Designer Contest concluded recently in Hangzhou. After several rounds of competition, interviews and product presentations, Zhang Xi won the bronze medal with her work Royal Trend , Zhang Bichan and Feng Rui won the Excellent Award with their products Poetic Scales and Seed respectively.
Zhang Xi, inspired by the tattoo arts, integrated the spiral property of dragon scales into the paper-folding arts, creating smooth yet clear curves of the clothes. Her works is the perfect combination of two dimensions and three dimensions. Poetic Scales by Zhang Bichai uses white silk georgette, habutai and suede as materials and adopts embroidery, sewing and clinching as techniques. Seed by Feng Rui emphasizes both the function of the clothes and the sense perception.
The 6th Cocoon Cup was sponsored by the China Fashion Association and Hangzhou Silk and Women s Wear Development Team and was organized by the Team s Office and the Hangzhou Fashion Association. The Contest received 2,666 entries internationally and only 33 made the final round after the examination of seven top designers and professors of the field. The final round lasted four days during which the contestants abilities to market their brands and to adapt to the market s need were tested as well as their professional skills.
Since its launch in 2007, the annual Cocoon Cup has soon evolved into the top contest of its kind in China owing to its clear orientation: finding and nurturing young designers. The winners will gain an opportunity to study for one or two years at the first-class designers colleges in Europe.
