Guo Yuhai, a fellow researcher with ZSTU won the 2010 Science and Technology Innovation Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation at the award ceremony held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on the afternoon of October 20, making him one of the 17 awardees of the Innovation category of the Foundation this year. The other two categories are the Science and Technology Achievement, 1 recipient for this year, and the Science and Technology Progress, 33 recipients for this year. Present at the ceremony were Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and State Councilor, Lu Yongxiang, Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress and President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Minister of Science and Technology and Ho Hau-wah, Vice Chairman of National Committee of the CPPCC. Our vice dean of the Science and Technology Division was also at the ceremony.
Guo has been doing research and development work on textile materials for many years, inventing the preparation technique of poly(tetrafluorethylene) (PTFE) based complex membrane, the processing technology of stress forming PTFE hollow fiber membrane and the multi-composite processing technology of high temperature and corrosion resistant air filter material, proposing the theories of the interface structure of complex membrane and non-uniform deformation of stretching membrane and a new idea regarding improvement of mechanical property of PTFE fiber through gel, solving the technology bottleneck of controlling uniformity deformation, and adhesion property of PTFE membrane .
HLHL Foundation was started by patriotic financiers Ho Sin-Hang, Leung Kau-Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Guo-Wei in 1994, aiming at rewarding excellent scholars for their scientific and technological breakthroughs annually.
