China National Peking Opera Company staged performance at ZSTU

The Small Theater in the StudentRecreationCenter was illuminated by the stars from the China National Peking Opera Company on the evening of the October 13^th. The artists staged a spectacular performance for the ZSTU students and teachers, as part of their effort to bring the classic arts to campus. They were warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic audience of over 600, including Mr. Liu Xiaohua, the Party Secretary of the Opera Company, Mr. Cheng Gang, Assistant Party Secretary of ZSTU and leaders from the ZSTU Youth League.

Chen delivered a speech before the show, expressing the warm welcome to the Company on behalf of ZSTU and emphasizing the importance of the classic arts on campus. He pointed out that ZSTU, in its 113 years of history has accumulated rich cultural legacy which is inherited and carried on through the recent establishment of various art institutions and the organization of rich art activities on campus. He hoped that the students would learn more about the essence of the traditional arts and cultivate their characters. Chen also exchanged gifts on behalf of ZSTU with the Company.

The performance included classic episodes from three dramas, namely, Reprimanding CaoCao while Drumming , San Cha Pass , and Chun Cao at Court , giving a full play to the different features of makeup, aria, and dance of four different roles, i.e. male roles, female roles, painted face male roles and male clown roles . For example, the performance of Ma Xiangfei, the Peking opera master gained rounds of applause for his dazzling martial arts and impassionate aria. The audience, being so close to the art, was all deeply impressed.

ZSTU has always committed to the art education. Dozens of performances have been staged by prestigious provincial art troupes so far. The present China National Peking Opera Company s tour is jointly organized by the Ministries of Education, Culture and Finance. ZSTU is one of the five stops on the tour.
