2010 New Year s Message from Professor Ye Jinfu

Dear professors, students and friends,

At this joyful occasion of year out and year in on behalf of the university's CPC Committee, I hereby express my sincere thanks and solicitude for all the faculty who work diligently and self-lessly for the university's educational causes. I also would like to convey my regards to the students who are studying assiduously. Happy New Year and good luck!

In 2009 which is the hardest year in this century for China, it made great achievements that no other countries could make. Inspired by the splendid achievements the country has made for the past 60 years, all the NPU teachers and students thoroughly implement the Scientific Outlook on Development, take development as their first priority and do all they can for the university; it thus made great progress.

Focusing on its distinctive characteristics of highlighting aeronautics, astronautics and marine engineering, the university further clarifies its ideas on development. The implementation of the Scientific Outlook on Development receives the approval of both the Party members and the masses and the praises of the higher authorities.

We have completed the tasks assigned by the university's CPC Committee and accomplished the expected objectives. We made concerted efforts and won the battle over the H1N1 flu. We also greatly raised the income of all the faculty including the retired.

In 2010, the university will complete its construction programs under the Eleventh Five-year Plan and start up its Twelfth Five-year Plan. In the year, the Party building-up and excellence-creating project and the school-running level improving project by the Ministry of Industry and Information will undergo final evaluation.

2010 is the final year for achieving the goals in the first stage of the university's three-stage development strategy. We will follow the requirements for the Scientific Outlook on Development, be innovative, forge ahead courageously, get internationalized, aim at the first class, thoroughly accomplish the goals for the first stage of development strategy and then achieve the goals for the second stage of the strategic objective of entirely building NPU into a prestigious research university in the mid of the second decade of this century.

Dear professors and students,

As the New Year's bell tolls we see off the unforgettable 2009 and usher in the hopeful 2010. At this occasion of year out and year in on behalf of the university leadership, I hereby extend my New Year's best regards and sincere wishes to all the teachers and students! My heartfelt gratitude also goes to the faculty who diligently teach, research, administer and thus make contributions to the university development.

In retrospect NPU has made many great achievements: the UAV developed by the university was among the military parade during the 60th anniversary celebration of the founding of the P. R. China, receiving the commendation by the state leaders and the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Information.

The fifth conference on scientific and technological work was held, clarifying some ideas of how to do our future scientific and technological work. The postgraduate education excellent project passed evaluation and was spoken highly of by peer specialists. The 985 second-phase projects made wonderful progress; the innovation platform and the discipline development were well under way; a number of new high-level research facilities were put into service.

The university was awarded with the first prize for the sixth national-level higher education achievement, ranking the seventh among the institutions of higher learning throughout the country. A batch of defense science and technology research results passed state appraisal. The teaching quality was improving, and the students' job rate was more than 98%.

The Aoxiang talent project was fruitful. The university stepped up further its international exchange and cooperation, joining the EU's TANDEM project. In addition, the university is doing well in laboratory building-up and management. The capital construction of both campuses progressed greatly; the logistic reform was going on; the school-running conditions were improving.

NPU's development is in its full swing. In 2010, the university will complete the first stage of its three-stage development strategy. Under the guidance of the Scientific Outlook on Development, we will find our gap with other universities, clarify our ideas, grasp our development opportunities keep pace with times, determine our tasks, be practical and do solid work to build NPU into a domestically first-class and internationally renowned prestigious research university.
