At 9:30 am, November 15th, Michael Hudson, the well-known U.S. independent expert of financial and economic analysis, and new economic archaeologist, delivered an English lecture entitled Neo-Liberalism in US while attending the 25th Law Lecture and the 85th Academic Luncheon Seminar of the School of Law, HUST. This Law lecture was held in the Lecture Hall of School of Public Management, hosted by HUST leaders Ouyang Kang and Qi Haibin, professor of School of Law. Meanwhile, Wang Bing, associate professor of School of Public Management, also attended this Law lecture.
During the lecture, Hudson firstly expounded the origin of Neo-Liberalism and its development in U.S. Then he pointed out, by combining with the current international economic climate, how America has used a series of economic theories and policies to develop its domestic economy and finally to achieve and consolidate its hegemonic position in world financial system under the concept of neo-liberalism.
For China, Hudson thought, the economic system at present stage should highlight the protection of consumers, workers and farmers just as the American development in the 19th century, which was characterized by the government s protection of labors. He also set out his understanding of the current monetary system that currency issue must be held by the government instead of private banks and foreign banks.
Mr. Hudson s lecture won applauses with its concise and insightful analyzing. In the interactive section, Professor Hudson answered in details all the questions raised by HUST students. Finally, professor Qi made a brief summary about this lecture and expressed his earnest thanks to Professor Hudson s visit.
