30 Dec 2009 HUST international students gathered together in Friendship Apartment Thursday afternoon celebrating the upcoming new year.
The annual international students' New Year celebration, hosted by the School of International Education, is a tradition for HUST students and staff, with the aim to promote Chinese culture and offer a platform for international students.
Students from different countries staged a brilliant art show, featuring Chinese songs and dances. These students in their original way presented the charm of traditional Chinese culture like 'three and half sentences' a language show accompanied by traditional percussion instruments . They also brought audiences wonderful performances such as Latin dance, street dance and rap.
The School of International Education also took this good opportunity to bestow honors and awards upon excellent students, encouraging them to make greater progress in the next year. Mr. Yu Hailin, Executive Deputy Director of School of International Education, attended the celebration. In his address, he reviewed the progress students had made in 2009 and hoped for further progress in 2010.
There are now over 1,000 international students studying at HUST, most of whom are learning Chinese language and culture. According to students' major and Chinese level, 23 Chinese classes are set up by the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Centre so as to tailor to individual students' needs.
