HUST President Li Peigen and Vice President Luo Qingming respectively met the French delegation led by Mr. Serge Lavroff, the new French Consul General to Wuhan on January 21, 2010.
On the evening of January 21, Dr. Li Peigen met Mr. Serge Lavroff and his colleagues at a welcoming banquet in Baijingyuan Restaurant. Dr. Li extended his warm welcome to the newly inaugurated consul general and elaborated his sincere expectation that Mr. Lavroff would further promote the educational, cultural and scientific exchange and collaboration between HUST and France.
He mentioned in particular the establishment of Wuhan East Lake National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone and its historically potential implication in terms of development opportunity for HUST, suggesting that the two sides should take full advantage of the great opportunity to strengthen collaborations in relevant fields.
Mr. Lavroff spoke highly of the existing collaboration between HUST and France and pledged to advance concrete collaboration between the two sides based on the existing pleasant collaboration foundation.
Earlier the day, Dr. Luo Qingming , HUST Vice president and Executive Vice Director of WNLO, received Mr. Serge Laroff in a friendly meeting at the WNLO. Dr. Luo followed his sincere welcome to the consul general with a briefing of the existing collaboration between WNLO and French tertiary education and research institutions.
Mr. Lavroff assured Dr. Luo that the French Consulate General would continue playing the positive role in promoting the collaboration between WNLO and France.
After the meeting, Mr. Lavroff visited WNLO and School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering SOSE with great interest, especially the labs for Biomedical Engineering, mesoscopic solar cell and industrial laser device.
Mr. Fleck, the science and technology Consul from the French Consulate, and relevant people from the WNLO, SOCE and ICE also attended the reception events.
