Jan. 11 Chinese president Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao with other senior leaders Monday morning presented awards to representatives at the annual national scientific and technological award ceremony at the Great Hall of the People.
HUST in total won 5 prizes, including one natural science award 2nd prize , three scientific and technological progress awards 2nd prize and one international scientific and technological cooperation award 2nd prize .
Two prizes went to HUST as the first author. Prof. Wu Yin and Prof. Yang Xiaoxue were conferred a National Natural Science Award in recognition of their achievements in the project "Research on Micro Optical Devices and the Relevant Phenomena", which filled the six-year-gap of HUST's missing national natural science award; Duan Xianzhong, Li Yinhong, Liu Huanzhang, Chen Jinfu, Chen Xiangwen, Shi Dongyuan, Zhang Dequan, Wang Xinhua, Liu Tianbin and He Yangzan HUST in ocoperation with Central China Grid Company shared the second prize for national science-technology progress for their research "Relay Protection Setting Calculation in Cross Region Large Power Network ".
Two prizes went to HUST as one of the participants of the winning project. Jiang Jianxin, Liang Huaping, Zhou Hong, Li Lei, Zheng Jiang, Bai Xiangjun, Huang Hong, Chen Ping, Wang Zhengguo, Yang Ce from the Third Military University and HUST's affiliated Tongji Hospital shared the second prize for national scientific and technological progress out of their achievements in the research "Epidemiologic Features, Pathogenesis and Treatment Measures of Wound Infection"; Zhang Jixian, Li Yingcheng, Li Haitao, Gong Huili, Wan Youchuan, Tian Jinwen, Yan Qin, Ding Xiaobo, Yang Jinghui, Han Yanshun shared the second prize for scientific and technological progress out of their achievements in the research "Development of National Remote Sensing Mapping Platform and the Application of Major Projects" in cooperation with Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping, Capital Normal University, Remote Sensing Technique Co., Ltd. and Wuhan University .
The international scientific and technological cooperation award was conferred to Dr. Britton Chance. He is the first in Hubei province to win this award since it was established in 1994.
In addition, the project "X Navigator" from Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics cooperated by Tang Jianbo, Bao Xiaojing, Cao Yuqing, Hu Zongyi, Lu Yan, Huang Gaiyun, Yang Changcheng, Duan Jijun, Duan Tao and Tang Yidong won second prize for national special award of scientific and technological progress.

Dr. Britton Chance won the China international scientific and technological cooperation award
Dr. Britton Chance, a scientist from the United States, now working for Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, won China's 2009 International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award. This award was launched in 1994 by the State Council as a national science award and was officially conferred in 1995.
The international cooperation award is granted to foreign experts, engineering technicians, technological management experts or organizations for their outstanding contribution to China s science and technology development in bilateral or multilateral scientific cooperation. Dr. Chance is the first winner in Hubei Province since the launching of this award.
Dr. Chance won national Friendship award in 2008, and is the first foreign expert in Hubei to receive both Friendship award and the International Science and Technology Cooperation award.
