Students from KPC Participated in Seminar at NAU

On August 31st, 2009, a delegation of six students from the Department of Literature and Department of Economics and Business Administration, as well as their accompanying faculty Tateishi Hajime at Kagoshima Prefectural College (KPC) participated in a two-week seminar for Chinese Culture at NAU. Director of International Education, Prof. Zhang Hongsheng expressed his sincere welcome to the delegation and reviewed the student/faculty exchange since 2001 when the two parties signed intercollegiate cooperation contract. Zhang also expressed his wish that students should cherish the chance to learn Chinese culture and become the friendship emissary between China and Japan. He also expressed his gratitude to President Takeaki Nakadome of KPC and the instructor Tateishi Hajime for their great efforts during the cooperation.

During the opening ceremony, Tateishi Hajime read the letter from President Takeaki Nakadome of KPC in Chinese. President Nakadome spoke highly of the key role the Seminar for Chinese Language and Culture has played in the communication of two parties. The year 2009 marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of PRC and he hoped the two parties would strengthen the cooperative relationship to boost the communication to a new level.

A wide arrange of course are made for the seminar, including Chinese language, Traditional Chinese Painting, Paper-cutting, Taichi, folk music, discussion with Chinese students and home stay in Chinese families. At the end of the seminar, one of the Japanese students will continue Chinese learning at NAU and two students at NAU have been selected to study in Japan as a result of the intercollegiate exchange program.
