A delegation from the University of Washington visited CUMT

On Feb. 27, 2008, a delegation from the University of Washington (UW) visited CUMT. Prof. Hank Wang, vice president of UW, led the delegation, accompanied by Prof. Daniel T Schwartz, vice dean of College of Engineering, UW and Mr. Emerson Miller, office administrator of China Office, UW.

Before their visit to CUMT, on Feb. 26, Prof. Ge Shirong, president of CUMT, met with the delegation in Beijing and had a deep discussion on the potential cooperation between two universities in the area of energy and environment protection. Prof. Ge addressed that the cooperation between CUMT and UW will focus on importing American advanced technology to accelerate China s research on energy and environment. He also expressed that, by President Wang s visit to CUMT, the two universities will know each other better and promote academic exchanges.

On Feb. 27, Prof. Song Xuefeng, vice president of CUMT, welcomed the delegation at Nanhu Campus and introduced the achievements of CUMT s cooperation with foreign universities in the student joint training, scientific researches etc. He believed that CUMT and UW will set up a close relationship in the area of energy and environment. Prof. Hank Wang, vice president of UW, agreed with Prof. Song s remark and showed great interests in the future cooperation between two universities. After that, on behalf of UW, Prof. Daniel T Schwartz and Mr. Emerson Miller gave a brief introduction to UW.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the labs of backfilling and underground gasification and the CUMT National University Science Park. Later, the delegation had a discussion on energy and environment with professors from the schools of mining engineering, safety engineering, chemical engineering, environment and spatial Informatics and mechantronics engineering. Through the discussion, both sides found some research interests in common.

It is believed that, with the good beginning, the cooperation between CUMT and UW must have bright future with abundant academic achievements.
