On July 11, 2009, the opening ceremony of 2009 Cross-Straits Summer Seminar for University Students was held at NAU. Around 30 faculty and students from Taiwan University (TU), Chung Hsing University (CHU), National Chiayi University (NCU) and China Institute of Technology (CIT) will take part in a 10-day exchange activity with the peer group from related colleges at NAU. Wan Zhongwen, Professor from Department of Applied Economics at CHU , Professor Hou Jiazheng, Director of Department of Research and Development at NCU and Lin Juanjuan, Professor from Department of Food Science and Technology at CIT headed the delegation at the invitation. This exchange activity has been the largest and highest-level communication so far between the two sides across the Taiwan Straits held at NAU and will inject new vitality to the cooperation and communication between two parties.
Hua Yachun, vice-president at NAU, addressed the ceremony and stated that NAU has always attached importance to the communication with universities from and has built up close cooperative relationship with more than 10 universities so far. He also expressed the wish that the universities between the two sides would make joint efforts to cultivate ambitious and aspiring youth so as to make contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Hou Jiazheng, on the behalf of faculty and students from , delivered a speech at the opening ceremony too. He noted that it has been the first time for most members in the delegation to participate in this kind of seminar. And it would be an optimal opportunity for youth to learn some academic fruits from the mainland and comprehend the development of mainland China.
The faculty and students from involve various disciplines and majors like landscape design, horticulture, agriculture, food science and technology, biochemistry, agricultural economy and so on. Faculty and students from two parties will have an extensive communication through a series of symposiums, academic reports and field trip to promote the mutual development of higher education between mainland China and Taiwan.
