Nine students from seven colleges at NAU and two accompanying faculty members from College of International Education and College of Foreign Studies respectively participated in a short-study program in the United States organized by NanjingAgriculturalUniversity and Oregon State University (OSU) from August 2-14, 2009.
During the program, students and faculty from NAU were involved in a broad coverage of study experiences: lectures on US Society and Culture, Natural Resource Management and Animal Rights, visits to various scientific and research centers including Newport, Humane Society, WheatMarketingCenter, Holiday Tree Farm and Nike Headquarter, and so on. These activities helped students and faculty to have a deep understanding about US politics, economy, society, education and culture. Besides, a variety of other activities including visits to local trade farm and main places of interest in San Francisco, enjoying concerts, and home stay were also arranged to help the participants to have a personal contact and experience of ordinary American life. The students active involvement in the activities, strong thirst fro knowledge, sound comprehensive quality and the spirit of fraternity impressed the OSU faculty and staff in the program.
Oregon StateUniversity has been an important cooperation partner for NAU and is conducting a 2+2 dual degree program and summer short-study program with NAU. It is the second time to organize the short-study program in the summer of the 2009. Professors Kelvin Koong, David Hannaway from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Jin Ling from the College of Veterinary Medicine at OSU organized the program with help from graduate student Daniel James to ensure the complete success of the trip.
