Prof. Qiang Sheng from College of Life Sciences and Prof. Liu Zhaopu from College of Resources and Environmental Sciences at our university both won the National Awards for Outstanding Scientists, which were awarded to altogether 977 scientists across the nation. The awarding ceremony was held in Nanjing on Dec. 15. Mr. He Quan, Vice governor of Jiangsu Province attended the ceremony and presented the National Awards for Outstanding Scientists.

Prof. Qiang Sheng is the Head of Plant Science Department as well as the Head of Weed Research Laboratory, NAU. His research areas are weed biodiversity, weed biology and sustainable management, invasive alien plant biology, bioherbicide technology, environment safety for transgenic plant, chemical weed control and herbicide resistance of weeds. He has accomplished 6 national research projects and now is chairing 8 national and provincial natural science projects. Prof. Qiang has published over 150 academic papers, won 8 Teaching and Research Achievements of national and provincial level and 4 Achievements for Science and Technology Transfer.

Prof. Liu Zhaopu, Deputy Director of Salty Soil Committee, Soil Science Society of China and Council member of China Energy Society, specializes in costal salty soil resources, heterologous water resources and salt-tolerant effective plant resources. He has made great contributions in above-mentioned research areas. His main achievements include: twenty or more national projects chaired and accomplished by Prof. Liu Zhaopu; National and Provincial Awards for Scientific Progress; 200 academic papers published including 30 SCI papers; 4 invention patents. He also bred two new varieties of salt-tolerant effective plants.
