Sino-German  Nanjing  Integrated  Center  for  Earth  System  Science  Founded  at  NJU
The Sino-German Nanjing Integrated Center for Earth System Science (NICE), jointly set up by Nanjing University (NJU) and the Free University of Berlin, was unveiled at NJU on November 19. Upwards of 200 NJU faculty and students attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Prof. Gao Shu, Dean of the School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences and Director of the NICE.
Prof. Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, and Prof. Monika Sch fer-Korting, Vice President of the Free University of Berlin, addressed the ceremony. They both emphasized the significance of the founding of the NICE and expressed the wish to further cooperation between the two universities.
Dr. Bernd W nnemann, Professor at the Free University of Berlin and also NICE Director, briefed the attendees on the founding process of the NICE and its development plan. He stressed that the joint center aims to promote cooperation between Nanjing University and the Free University of Berlin in the areas of scientific research, faculty and student exchange, and teaching and student education.
The highlight of the opening ceremony was when President Chen Jun and Vice President Monika Sch fer-Korting unveiled the bronze plaque to mark the official opening of the center.
