On the morning of October 17 the Energy Research Institute of Nanjing University (NJU) was officially inaugurated. Prof. Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, together with Mr. Sun Longde, Vice President of the PetroChina Company Limited, unveiled the institute.
Over 100 distinguished guests from China`s prestigious universities and energy companies attended the unveiling ceremony.
The ceremony was presided over by NJU Vice President Prof. Lv Jian.
"Nanjing University has a long history of conventional energy research, such as coal, natural gas and oil, and we also actively explore and study alternative energies. The newly founded Energy Research Institute aims to build a high-level energy research team, to construct a new platform for energy research, and to keep track of the new trends in global energy research," said President Chen Jun of Nanjing University.
After the unveiling ceremony, Academician Jia Chengzao, Director of the newly founded Energy Research Institute, and Academician Tong Xiaoguang gave lectures on China`s Energy Prospects and Frontier Technologies, and the Current Situation and Opportunities for International Upstream Oil and Gas Cooperation respectively.
