Delegation of Nanyang Technological University(Singapore) visits CQU

Prof. Er Meng Hwa, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), accompanied by Ms. Loh Ai Hwa, Senior Deputy Director of the International Department of NTU, and Mr. Desmond Woo, Manager of the Global Immersion Programme Office of NTU, paid a visit to Chongqing University (CQU) on April 12, 2010, with a purpose of promoting the Global Immersion Programme (GIP) in Chongqing and establishing cooperative relationship with CQU in terms of scientific research as well as exchange of teachers and students, etc.

Prof. Bai Chenguang, Vice President of CQU, warmly welcomed the visitors and introduced CQU to them in general. Meanwhile, Vice President Er Meng Hwa also briefed NTU and the GIP program, hoping to jointly boost the project by virtue of the regional advantage of Chongqing University. The two sides also discussed students exchange, for which a preliminary agreement was expected to reach in the near future.

As a top-grade university established by the government of Singapore, NTU was established in 1991 on the site of the original Nanyang University. It grows out of Nanyang Technological College founded in 1981 and can be traced back to Nanyang University founded in 1955 with the folk funds raised by Southeast Asian people. With 2 campuses in Singapore and more than 30,000 students, the university contains subjects of arts, science, engineering and commerce, in which its engineering enjoys a high ranking in the world.

The to-be-promoted GIP will send undergraduates of NTU to study and practise throughout the world, providing chances for them to learn and practice in cities of such countries as China, USA, France, Switzerland, India and Vietnam for one term. The students will be able to study relevant subjects in overseas excellent higher education institutions as well as practise and do researches in overseas enterprises and industrial parks. With the development of the economy in west China, NTU sets its focus on Chongqing University and will seek for excellent enterprises to promote the internship program in Chongqing.
