Osaka University Delegation visited Tianjin University

On Nov. 23rd, 2007, a delegation from Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University headed by Prof. Masao Toyoda, Dean of the School, visited Tianjin University. Prof. SHU Gequn, Vice President of TU met the guests. Prof. HAN Jinyu, Vice Dean of Graduate School, Prof. CUI Zhenduo, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof.

QIU Zurong, Vice Dean of School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering and Prof. YANG Fuling, Director of International Cooperation Office attended the meeting. VP SHU Gequn extended warm welcome to the guests and gave a brief introduction to Tianjin University, including its history, education, research and international collaboration, especially the collaboration with Japanese universities.

Prof. Masao Toyoda expressed his appreciation for the hospitality extended to the delegation during their visit and delightedly recalled his experience of being entitled as TU honorary professor in 1993. Both sides expressed their hope to strengthen mutual understanding and enhance cooperation through the student exchange program.

After the meeting, Prof. Han Jinyu and Prof. Masao Toyoda, on behalf of the two sides, signed the Agreement for Academic Exchange and Memorandum for Student Exchange between Graduate School, Tianjin University and Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. According to the Agreement and Memo, there will be a full-scale collaboration between the two universities in terms of student and faculty exchange, joint research, sharing of educational resources, etc.

, and each year, no more than 5 graduate students from either university may be enrolled at the partner university within one academic year. During their visit, the delegation visited Tianjin University Archives and some labs in School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering and School of Materials Science and Engineering.

Prof. Masao Toyoda also gave a representation on New Phase of Research Strategy in Japan and Research Activities of Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University to TU faculty and students. Founded in 1931, Osaka University has been one of the seven earliest national universities in Japan. The University has 11 faculties/schools, 15 graduate schools, five research institutes, 23 facilities affiliated with the faculties/schools, graduate schools or research institutes, libraries with two branch, two hospitals, 17 university and 3 nationwide joint-use facilities.

There are about 4,900 teaching and administrative staff and 20,600 students.
