An exhibition of abstract paintings from fifteen artists named The Promise of the Invisible is currently on display April 14 until April 23, 2009 at Hall 5, 7 and 9 at the National Art Museum of China.
Achille Bonito Oliva is the curator of this exhibition as well as the curator of the Venice Biennale in 1993. He took participation in organizing the Art in Italy in the 20th century held in the National Art Museum of China in 2006. He initiated the movement of the Italian Transavantgarde Art in the 1980s. From a social perspective which differs from the majority of the Chinese modern works in the 1990s, a total of nearly 70 works boasting the aesthetic pursuit, on the one hand, have drawn upon the achievements of the Western abstraction aesthetics; on the other hand, have renewed China s aesthetic tradition and created a splendid modern abstraction art. A number of artists participate in this show, including Yu Youhan, Li Huasheng, Liang Quan, Ma Kelu, Zhang Yu, Li Xiangyang, Meng Luding, Zhang Hao, Zhang Jianjun, Tan Ping, Liu Xuguang, Xu Hongming, Liu Gang, Lei Hong and Zhou Yangming. As representatives of different generations, the artists reveal a changing abstraction art.
