China has announced plans of building at least 45 new airports in the next five years to accommodate the booming travel market.
Li Jiaxiang, administrator, Civil Aviation Administration, China, was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that the plan includes a US$230-billion budget to expand air travel. The locations of these airports were not disclosed but Beijing is deemed to be investing heavily to develop poorer areas and China s west, and link them to the more booming eastern cities.
The country s burgeoning air travel market is expected to surpass North America as the world s largest, in the decades to come.
