Top travel companies in the UK have launched the Fair Tax on Flying campaign to fight against further air passenger duty (APD) increases by the UK government.
The campaign is aimed to urge the government to reconsider increasing APD prices following a recent consumer survey conducted by ABTA, that shows 63% of British people think the taxes are too high. Mark Tanzer, chief executive, ABTA, was quoted in Travel Daily UK as having said that the prime minister had identified tourism as one of the top five industries to drive growth yet, aviation tax had become a punitive stealth tax. Tanzer added that increased taxes could affect the UK economy as travellers could opt to not to include UK in their travel destinations.
ABTA has teamed up with British Airways, UKInbound and the Co-operative Travel and wrote a letter to George Osborne in time to meet the March budget announcement.
