The city administration of Kuala Lumpur (KL) has unveiled plans of building covered walkways all across the city, giving pedestrians an alternative to taking taxis.
The covered walkways are the city administration s solution to address the complaints against taxi drivers. They will be modelled after the walkways in Hong Kong and Singapore, and will link convention centres, hotels, shopping malls and public transport, with the first proposed walkway linking Bukit Bintang and KLCC. According to Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, minister, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing, Malaysian oil company Petronas has already announced providing US$32.80-million to build all covered walkways around KLCC, as reported in eTurbo News.
The covered walkways are deemed to not only to provide pedestrians with an alternative to taxis, but also help in reducing the number of cars of the roads.
