On the afternoon of March 12, SCUT and Shenzhen Genomics Institute signed an agreement on the southern campus to cooperatively producing talents of genome science by establishing Genome Sciences Innovative Classes to explore a new multi-mode approach of cooperation of production, teaching and research.
This joint formation of the Genome Sciences Innovative Classes is another bold innovative step to carry out cooperative education. It follows the "2.5 +1.5" personnel training pattern of Genome Sciences. Students in the classes are full-time junior undergraduates of relevant specialties selected from School of the Biology Science and Engineering, School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Software and School of Science. After they complete their undergraduate studies in the first five semesters, they study in Genomics Institute for the succeeding three semesters.
Shenzhen Genomics Institute is internationally recognized as a leading genome research institution with strong scientific research strength with advanced level of technology and personnel. In 2008, two sophomores and two juniors of SCUT have been exceptionally recruited by the institute in advance. In addition, two fresh graduates have taken part in and made contribution to their Genome Research of "Yanhuang the first", and their essay has been published in Nature as a cover article.
