On March 14, 2009, Student Pioneer Zone (SPZ) of SCUT was inaugurated with an aim of helping the students to initiate their own business. Backed by enterprise incubation platforms like SCUT Science Zone, the National High-tech Service Center, Science and Technology Ministry Pioneer Foundation for Technology-oriented SMEs and the Undergraduate Pioneer Service Institution, the zone offers all kinds of services including: business registration, project application, business management skill training, financial commissioning, legal consultation, and patent commissioning, and application for certificates and preferential taxation.

On the ceremony, vice president ZHANG Zhengang said that the Student Pioneer Zone supported by SCUT would take advantage of its comprehensive innovative resources of talents, expertise, experiment equipment and cultural background to open to students with pioneering spirit to facilitate the industrialization of hi-technology and its products in the field of new materials, electronic information, bio-medicine, energy and environmental protection, and optical-mechanical-electronic integration, etc.

Through the industrialization of hi-tech products, the zone will be built into a science and technology transformation base, a hi-tech enterprise incubation and demonstration base, thus serving the economic development of our country, especially of Guangdong province.
