On May 22, the celebration meeting of Department of Engineering Mechanics (DEM)' 50th anniversary was held at the international conference room of Liwu Science and Technology Building. Over 800 people attended the meeting, including school leaders LI Yuanyuan, DU Xiaoming, and LIU Qijin, academicians BAI Yilong and WU Xiaoping, national well-known scholars from Tsinghua Universitry, Peking University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, etc.
, as well as guests from the provincial Department of Transportation, DEM alumni, teacher and student representatives.
During the past 50 years, the Department has made great achievements in discipline construction, talent training, scientific research, international corporation and so on.
In his speech, President LI Yuanyuan expressed the best congratulations. He pointed out that alumni are an important force to support SCUT's building into a top-ranking State university and a famous world-class university. He spoke highly of the Department's talent training notions and development ideas. He said that in the next phase of Project 985 construction, SCUT will intensify the discipline's construction following the guideline of strengthening the construction of sciences.
Besides the meeting, School of Civil and Transportation Engineering organized a series of celebration events including alumni symposiums and thematic academic reports on mechanics etc.
