On Sept. 15, the 6th Auto Culture Festival and the launch of South China University of Technology (SCUT) FSAE fleet s new car was held at the Shaw Building of Science. The splendid launch of the formula car made an impression on all the audience.
With the theme of "Created in China, Future Motor", the 6th Auto Culture Festival held a number of wonderful activities such as T-shirt graffiti, public service advertising design contest, automotive knowledge competition and model car manufacturing contest. The formula car released was the first of its kind manufactured by Guangdong higher education institutions, and will participate the competition in the 1st Formula SAE of China recently to be held in Shanghai International Circuit, which is the only one F1 circuit in China.
It is reported, the 40 or so the members on the FSAE fleet are SCUT students, most of whom are undergraduates. Besides those majoring in mechanics and vehicle engineering, many students majoring in management join the fleet.
"This formula car is manufactured by ourselves, stroke by stroke." the captain proudly told to the journalists, "we draw the design by ourselves and manufacture 70% of the components, except some certain standard components like engine, damper, differential mechanism and some bearings. We have spent about 200,000 RMB producing the car, including the purchase of equipment and tools."
It is understood that the 1st Formula SAE of China will be held in Shanghai International Circuit on Oct. 20, and 20 higher education institutions, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Hunan University, will send their fleets to compete in the contest. The contest consists of 5 dynamic projects such as endurance racing and drag racing as well as 3 static projects such as design report and cost analysis information report.
