The bilateral symposium was held from 2nd to 4th of November. It was sponsored by the Chinese Ionic Liquid Laboratory (Group 207 of DICP), and was financially supported by the Sino-German Scientific Center. The objectives of the symposium were to promote mutual understanding, to enhance exchange and to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
Chairpersons of the symposium were Prof. Peter Wasserscheid and Prof. Udo Kragl from the German side, and Prof. DENG Youquan and Prof. LIU Changjun of the Chinese side. Speakers in the opening ceremony included Prof. ZHANG Tao, Director of DICP, Mr. CHEN Lesheng, Director of the Sino-German Scientific Center representing the Chinese side, Prof. Jorg Thoeming, coordinator of the German side, and Prof. Urs Welz-Biermann, Group Leader of the 207 Group of DICP.
Approximately 40 well-known scholars from both sides attended in-depth discussions on topics of prediction of the properties of ionic liquids, studies of the kinetics and thermodynamics of ionic liquids, progress and applications of ionic liquids and development of new types of ionic liquids. Prof. James Davis of the University of South Alabama was invited to give a plenary lecture on development frontiers in ionic liquids.
