The symposium was held at the Lecture Hall of the Bio-Tech Building, DICP, on 18 May. About 30 experts from France, USA, Japan, Germany, Russia, Portugal, Hungary, as well as from Tsinghua University and CAS Institute of Chemistry of China were invited to participate in the symposium, among them 12 scholars delivered lectures. Prof. ZHANG Tao, Director of DICP and Chairman of the symposium, presided over the opening ceremony and presented a welcome speech. Prof. SUN Lixian was the co-chairman of this academic meeting.
The theme of the symposium was on "calorimetry and thermal analysis", and the areas involved were chemistry, materials science, biology and their interdisciplinary studies. Prof. Jean-Pierre Grolier, Chairman of International Association of Chemical Thermodynamics(IACT), presented a lecture on his thermodynamic studies of micro/nano porous materials, and discussed with the participating scientists on the prospects of these frontier fields.
On the other hand, Prof. Michael Frenkel of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA, gave an introduction on the importance of thermochemistry data and the trends of development. The other 10 foreign experts also gave lectures on the progresses of their specific studies, and exchanged with the participants on new technologies and methods of calorimetry and thermal analysis.
After the symposium, the participants were invited to visit the Laboratory of Space Catalysis and New Materials of DICP. The visitors expressed high appraisement on the superior research conditions and research achievements of DICP.
