After four months of careful planning, the 5th Cross-Straits Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition was unveiled at the Literary College of Mao Zedong on Dec.18, moving from Beijing to Changgsha.

Combined with the other painting and calligraphy exhibition entitled Love Taiwan, Tour Changsha , the event was co-sponsored by the Organizing Committee of Cross-Straits Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition, Hunan Provincial Association of Calligraphers and Painters, and Hunan Provincial Culture and Arts Foundation.

The exhibition has attracted some 260 young, middle-aged and old painters and calligraphers, receiving over 600 pieces of calligraphies, paintings, arts and crafts works, including inscriptions of Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou, People First Party (PFP) Chairman James Soong and Father of Hybrid Rice Yuan Longping.

"Enriching Chinese culture is a great historical mission shared by colleagues in the cultural circles on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Artists from both sides of the Straits have pictured their good vision of peace and mutual development in their works, and demonstrated their artistic pursuits of inheriting the fine tradition and blazing new trails in a pioneering spirit", remarked Deputy Director of Hunan Provincial Department of Culture Lei Mingqiang at the unveiling ceremony.
