November 5th, 2010. The 28th School Sports Meet and the 6th Sports Festival was held on the sports ground at Changzhou University (CZU) Wujin campus. The school leaders sat on the spectators stands and enjoyed the opening ceremony.
About two thousand students and teachers took part in the parades and performances in the opening ceremony. Led by the National Flag, the School Flag, and the colorful flower and flag formation, students and teachers marched in a parade past the podium. The athlete formation got a big round of applause from the spectators. The performances of Tai-chi and Taekwondo brought the ceremony to its climax.
In the opening address, Pu Yuzhong, the President of CZU, pointed out that more and more students and teachers go in for sports, which has greatly improved both their physical and mental heath. Last year, CZU was awarded the honorary title of Outstanding Organizer of Sport Activities by the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province, which was a milestone in the school history. In the 17th Jiangsu Games, which was held last month in Changzhou, the athletic team of CZU won the honorary titles of Excellent Sportsmanship and Third-class Merit. Several large-scale sport games were held at the recently completely CZU Stadium, whose modern facilities were highly praised by athletes. All the achievements will arouse more enthusiasm for sports among students and staff of CZU. The President also stated that the annual sports meet is not only a competition but also a party, which will enhance the understanding, the friendship and the development of CZU.
After that, Jiang Bibiao, the Vice President announced the winners of President Cup Outstanding Organizer of Sport Activities at CZU in the academic year of 2009-2010. Leaders of CZU presented cups and prizes to the winners.
Representatives of student athletes and referees took their vows and promised that they would follow the rules, perform their duties, and observe sportsmanship.
Finally, Shi Guodong, Party Secretary of CZU, declared open the sports meet.
