Sept. 14, 2009 The final of the 2nd National Competition on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction was held in the Optics Valley Stadium of HUST during September 12th to 14th. Hosted by HUST, this competition was organized by the Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education and its Committee on Energy and Power disciplines.
After presentation of each participating team and strict appraisal by the the experts, six entries received Grand Prize in the final. They are: Zhejiang University s "Dealing with a Variety of Pollutants in the Flue Gas of Free-Radical-Enhanced-Catalytic Filter Removal Device" and the "Wheel-Based Hybrid Power Concept Vehicle", Hust s "Small Vertical Axis Wind Generator System" and the" LED Intelligent Lighting Control System", Dalian University s" Energy-Saving Automatic Brush Machine", as well as Jiangsu University s "Low-Power-Variable-Spray Water Sprinkler Unit Development and Energy-Saving Water-Supply Research ".
Twenty-one teams received first prizes and Seventy-three teams received second prizes respectively. Anhui University of Technology, Peking University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University all together 31 colleges received Outstanding Organization Award. We Hust s work has received three first prizes and four second prizes.
The one hundred and eleven innovative products participating in the contest covers three main areas: first, energy production involving the national economy, such as large-scale methane gathering and transportation technology based on low temperature , direct air-cooled power plant s waste heat reuse system , wireless testing system on site of the energy-saving building and other works; second, small water-saving inventions and products related to our daily lives , such as portable environment-protecting car washing device , temperature-controlled energy-saving drinking machine and household radio frequency digital power meter , etc.; third, some works attributing to the social practice surveys, such as "green toilets - exploration on future urban design of public toilets" and so on.
Experts believe that these achievements closely follow the cutting-edge academic research in the field of "energy-saving & emission-reducing", showing college students attentive observation for development of human society and people s life.
The next competition will be hosted by Beijing University of Science and Technology.
