On September 19, the establishment ceremony of Wuhan New Energy Research Institute was held in No. 8 Academic Lecture Hall. This new institute was co-established by Wuhan Municipal Government, East Lake Development Zone and Hust. Deputy Secretary of Wuhan Municipal Committee, Mayor Ruan Chengfa, executive vice mayor Yuan Shanla, the party committee secretary of Hust Lu Gang, and president Li Peigen attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by the Secretary-General Long Zhengcai from Wuhan Municipal Government.
On behalf of the Wuhan People s Government, Director Liu Chuantie from the Management Committee of Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone read out the approval on the establishment of Wuhan New Energy Institute". School leaders Lin Pinghua, Duan Xianzhong, and the leaders and relevant heads from Hubei Province Development and Reform Committee, Wuhan Development and Reform Committee, Wuhan Economy and Information committee, Wuhan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau attended the conference.
The institute will firmly grasp the opportunities of the new energy technology revolution. It will focus on establishing the national research bases such as national key laboratories and engineering centers. In order to achieve that, to industrialize the new energy, to cultivate innovative ability and to absorb the first-class talents will be the strategy. Hopefully, through 3-5 years efforts, the institute will be made into the leading, global-influencing R&D base and industrial innovation center, and become a major milestone of Wuhan "New Energy Central Valley". In 2-3 years, it will strive to achieve some breakthroughs in creating new energy industries and form the unique competitive advantages in Wuhan, so to lay a solid foundation for attaining the goal of Wuhan s 100 billion new energy industries.
The recent industrialization research direction and objective of the institute include: high-efficiency low-cost amorphous silicon/microcrystalline silicon thin-film solar cell industrialization and its R&D; high-power wind power generation equipment and system R&D; enzymatic bio-diesel R&D and industrialization, intelligent grid R&D, industrialization and application demonstration; new energy battery technology R&D and industrialization; carbon-release reduction; R&D, application and industrialization of resource utilization. In response to the urgent need for rapid development of new energy industries in Wuhan, the research institute will establish the corresponding new energy technology innovation system whose research and education framework will be composed of 3 major components: technology R&D platform, education-training and international cooperation agencies, policy research center. These mainly include: solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, smart grid, new energy battery, carbon-release reduction and resource utilization, a new energy institute, an energy policy and low-carbon economy research center. The chief academic leaders include: Academician Pan Yuan, Academician Fan Mingwu, Academician Cheng Shijie, Academician Zhang Yongchuan and Professor Zheng Chuguang and so on.
