The sixth International Symposium on Multispectral Image Processing &Pattern Recognition, sponsored by HUST, was held in Yichang Three Gorges Project Hotel from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. Approximately 400 delegates from United States, France, Germany, Japan, India, Hungary, China Taiwan, Hong Kong and China Mainland presented at the conference.

An opening speech was addressed by Professor Bir Bhanu from University of California at Riverside of USA, program committee chair of the conference. The conference was presided over by Professor Zhang Tianxu from Institute for Pattern Recognition & Artificial Intelligence.

The conference reports were delivered on the morning of Oct.30 and Oct. 31, during which Professor Bir Bhanu, Professor Mohammad Alam, from University of South Alabama, Professor J.K.Udupa, from University of Pennsylvania, Professor Kunio Doi, from University of Chicago, Professor Jonathan Roberts, from Australia CSIRO Information and Communication Technology Center Autonomous System Lab and Professor Aaron Fenster, from University of Western Ontario of Australia delivered an excellent invited speech respectively at the conference. On the afternoon of Oct. 30, delegates gave demonstrations of more than three hundred of delicate posters for the participants to exchange research achievements and experiences. On Nov. 1, more than two hundred of participants presented their research achievements and answered questions in five panel sessions.

As is known, the International Symposium on Multispectral Image Processing & Pattern Recognition is an international academic conference co-organized by SPIE and China. This is another success after the previous five, and it had received all together more than 1300 research papers, of which 672 were accepted after experts' review.
