In the Lunar New Year of 2010, HUST Science Park celebrated its 10th anniversary. The recollection of ten-year attainment is really inspiring. The employment opportunities began at 760 occupations, upon establishment, and rose to almost 10,000, at present. The proceeds of sale, with similar stride, elevated from 220,000,000 to 4,750,000,000. Through thick and thin, the combined diligence, intelligence and determination of the staff constitute a most splendid chapter.
HUST Science Park began land planning and expropriation in 1999. Infrastructure construction was carried out in March 2000. It was among the 22 pilot national university science parks approved by The Ministry of Science and Technology MOST and The Ministry of Education MOE . It passed the assessment and gained the approval of the authority in September 2003 and was categorized as Industrialization Base of National High-tech R&D Program 863 Program Achievements.
More recently, it was categorized as Pilot Institute of Municipal S&T Enterprise Accelerator Program by Wuhan Science and Technology Bureau in May 2009 and was graded as Provincial S&T Enterprise Incubator by China Hubei Provincial Science & Technology Department in August 2009. September 2009 witnessed its ratification of being College Student Entrepreneur Community.
In January 2010, MOST and MOE jointly acknowledged HUST Science Park as one national university science park in China.
HUST Science Park covers roughly 164.74-acre area, separated into two sections. One incubator section locates beside S2 Entrance of the campus. Its standard incubating area reaches 18,000 while the incubation units amount to 100. The incubation and industrialization section, which is the main one and is sited in Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone covers 280,000 .
The Innovation Base of Optoelectronics Enterprise Incubation is situated in this section, with 60,000 incubating area and 7000 construction of multi-faceted infrastructure encompassing transportation, piping system, greening, realignment of environment and relevant utilities.
After ten years' development, the HUST science park has formed a structure with a leading industry of optoelectronics, and synchronous developing in manufacturing industry, new material and software industry. During the process, the science park has prospered a group of state high-tech exemplary industrialization bases, such as the numerical control system industrial base, the laser industrial base, the sensitive element industrial base and the optical communication industrial base.
Gradually a number of well-known enterprise brands came into being, like HUST Tech, HUST Laser, HUST Numerical Control, Tianyu Information. Now it is home to 89 companies including the well-known enterprises such as Huawei, Kingdream, Raycus Fiber Laser, Zhong Yuan Hua Dian, of which, 60% companies focus on optoelectronic industry and 70% built upon the industrialization of HUST scientific achievements or set up by HUST alumni.
The HUST science park is now honored as the backbone of the Optics Valley of China in Wuhan. The enterprises in the Park, together with HUST shared about 70 scientific technology projects of national, provincial and municipal level, greatly pushing forward the university scientific research and disciplines development.
HUST Science Park, as a renowned and ingenious platform, undertakes the mission to work out comprehensive solutions to the entrepreneurship and innovation of scientific and technological enterprises. By augmenting the service excellence and multiplying types of service, HUST Science Park aim to produce more multi-dimension solutions at all levels.
HUST Science Park offers various advantages. Projects bidding service enables tenants to enjoy more policy support and facilitates the communication between tenants and relevant departments of all levels.
Financing service is accessible to tenants as well. HUST Science Park blends its ample investment, professional counseling and considerable resources into multi-level financing channels and inclusive financial services. It enhances the dialogue between the policy banks and the medium and small enterprises. Thus the enterprises manage to cope with the capital problems promptly, averting the disadvantages of complicated loaning procedures, scanty credit limit and tight deadline.
With the support from the tenants, regular internships are available to students from HUST. They prove to be highly beneficial for them in terms of job hunting. Besides, HUST Science Park familiarizes itself with some student teams and projects by organizing several promotion conferences and forums in respect of college entrepreneurship.
Further steps were made to set up HUST Student Entrepreneurship Base and Wuhan Optics Valley College Student S&T Entrepreneurship Community. Relevant protocols and rules were drafted and refined. Support was offered to five student groups to start their own businesses while service agreements were signed with each of another six student groups.
Information service is provided to tenants. Extensive facilities were established, including Statistical Work Station and Primary Service Station. They conduct regular visits to different tenants and build up archives. In addition, Wuhan Science & Technology Information Sharing Platform was erected, incrementally improving appreciation service system. Apart from assisting the administrative commission of Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone to better its services for the industry group, the information service also act as an agency, through which the enterprises report to and communicate with the administrative commission.
HUST Science Park boasts its competent basic property management which comprises food service, sanitation, security and maintenance. Facilities like bachelor flats, entertainment spas, apartments, parking lots, multifunctional meeting rooms, Internet centers and offices serve to the comfort and convenience of the tenants, attesting to its competitive edges of delighting surrounding, advanced technology and all-embracing services.
With the approval of the State Council of China, Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone has evolved into a national innovation model park, which not only generates momentum but also poses challenge of further progress. This challenge urges the HUST Science Park to fuse the university human resources with the entrepreneurship ambiance together, in order to boost the hi-tech industry, making it an archetypal base of commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, incubation of hi-tech enterprises, cultivation of entrepreneur and ingenious talents and combination of production, teaching and research.
