Prof. Wang of Civil Engineering Attended CCCI

Prof. Wang Xiaoming of the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, as the Chinese representative delegated by the Ministry of Science & Technology of China and the Administrative Center for China's Agenda 21, attended the UN-Habitat- Cities and Climate Change Initiative CCCI held in Manila, Philippines from 8-12 March 2010 upon the invitation of the UN-Habitat.


Participation in the workshop along with Prof. Wang is comprised of over 60 experts and scholars from 16 countries of the Asia Pacific Region, governments of Euro-American countries, universities, institutions and local administrations as well as scholars from UN-Habitat and UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. They held discussions on Cities and Climate Change Initiative Programme and the training proposals put forward by the Un-Habitat. Based on the experience in the Philippines CCCI pilot city, Sorsogon, they exchanged ideas over the latest development of cities' adaptation to climate change since Copenhagen conference. They also advocated promoting the programme and specific training projects for addressing climate change.


Prof. Wang on the workshop made the presentations of Cities in Climate Change Initiative Actions in China as well as China s Scientific & Technological Actions on Climate Change, which earned him wide acclaim.

Upon invitation Prof. Wang also visited University of Philippines and held discussions on establishing academic exchanges and cooperation with the School of Urban & Regional Planning. In addition, he held talks with the Ministry of Public Housing of Indonesia on how to jointly undertake cooperation in terms of tackling climate change in urban public residential areas.
