From January 20 to February 2, the Ministry of Education released the list of the 2009's Cheung Kong Scholars online including distinguished professors and chair professors .
A total of 254 scholars are selected among colleges and universities nationwide, including 155 distinguished professors and 99 chair professors. 11 professors from HUST are on the honored list, of whom, there are 6 distinguished professors namely, Huang Yunhui from the College of Materials Science and Engineering, Yin Zhouping from the College of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Jin Hai from the College of Computer Science & Technology, Yue Dong from the Department of Control Science & Engineering, Wu Tangchun from the College of Public Health, HuYu from the Union Hospital and 5 Chair Professors Xie Zhigang from the College of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Duan Yong from the School of Physics, Xiong Zixiang from the Department of Electronic & Information Engineering, Shen Kang from the School of Basic Medical Science, Li Shuming from the School of Pharmacy . The total number ranks 5th among the colleges and universities nationwide in the list.
While the main objective for the Distinguished Professors of Cheung Kong Scholars is to teach core subjects, strive for national key projects, publish high-rank papers and to win provincial or nation-level awards, the tasks of chair Professors are to carry out cutting-edge research with their collaborators, to promote the disciplines in their field and build foreign exchange framework, and to train and instruct young teachers and students. These outstanding young scholars will be provided with backup services, favorable living and working conditions, sufficient supporting funds in order to yield good results.
Up to now, a total of 65 professors from HUST have been apportioned as Cheung Kong Scholars by the Ministry of Education, including 35 distinguished professors and 30 chair professors, of whom, one was electeded as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009.
