Prof Edwin Trevathan, dean of the School of Public Health of Saint Louis University and Prof Zhengmin Qian, HUST alumnus and associate professor of SLU, visited the School of Medicine and Health Management, HUST on Dec 20.
Prof Trevathan gave an invited lecture entitled "New Opportunities on World Cooperation to Promote Mother and Baby's Health''. He cited the case of using folic acid worldwide on pregnant women as an intervention conducted by Chinese and American researchers to reduce neural tube defects in world new born babies. This showed that world health promotion has entered a stage of rapid development.
About a hundred teachers and students attended the lecture, and they exchanged views with Prof Trevathan afterward.
Heads of the School also held talks with Prof Trevathan. They expected to enhance cooperation and believed the two sides can maintain the cooperation to make gradual and steady progress. The two sides reached an initial consensus on the collaboration details of 2011.
They also signed a letter of intent on exchanges and cooperation and exchanged presents.
