On June 24th, President Wu Wann-Yih of Chinese Culture University visited SDU. Executive Vice-President Wang Qilong met with the guest. Wang described the recent development of the subjects offered in SDU, especially that of literature, history and philosophy, and explained the research and development plan of the newly founded Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies. Also, Wang expressed his concern for the inheritance and development Chinese Culture University has made in the studies of Chinese ancient civilization. He hoped the two universities would have further cooperation in this field. President Wu said he had visited SDU for two times before he became President, and both times when he was deeply impressed. After becoming the President, he carried out this visit which involves many academic supervisors and famous scholars in order to continue the tradition of academic exchanges and promote cooperation. During the meeting for academic exchanges, representatives from both sides discussed the matter. For Chinese Culture University, the representatives were from the School of Literature, the School of Philosophy, the School of Chinese Drama, and the Department of Digital Media Design. For SDU, the representatives were from the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies, the School of Literature, and the School of Computer Science and Technology. Both sides agreed to take advantage of their strength in Chinese literature, history and philosophy, and together to promote the academic development on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Exchanges should be tried in such areas as mutual cultivation of students, cooperation in dual-degree programs, co-sponsoring the Doctoral Forum for Confucian studies, and non-formal school education. In May 2009, Chinese Culture University and SDU signed a Cooperation Agreement which covers teacher exchanges, academic forums, and students exchanges. By Liang Lijuan |
