Three Specialties of CUMT Selected as National Featured Specialties

On December 17, 2007, China's Ministry of Education and China's Ministry of Finance announced the first group of 420 National Featured Specialties in 2007. Three specialties of our university are listed in it, including Mining Engineering, Safety Engineering and Mineral Processing Engineering.

The program of constructing featured specialty is a crucial part in the Project of Undergraduate Education Quality and Reform in Higher Learning Institutions, implemented by China's Ministry of Education, and also it is an important index to judge the education levels of higher learning institutions.

The aims of the projects are to construct several specialties in the areas that need talents and prior development; to push forward the harmonious development between specialty construction and national economic and social development; to establish a group of bases for cultivating urgently required talents and to demonstrate and lead the specialty construction in other similar higher learning institutions.

It is reported that, during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), China's Ministry of Education will set up 3000 key featured specialties. In the first group of National Featured Specialties, 33 are from Jiangsu province, among which 5 from Nanjing University, 3 from Southeast University and our University separately, ranking the 2nd in quantity in Jiangsu Province.
