Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung Receives Honorary Doctorate at NJU(41634)

President Chen Jun presents the certificate of honorary doctorate

degree of law to Wu Poh-hsiung.

On the morning of May 31, Nanjing University held a ceremony at the Great Hall to confer an honorary doctorate degree upon Wu Poh-hsiung, Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT). The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Zhang Rong, Vice President of Nanjing University.

Prof. Hong Yinxing, Chancellor of Nanjing University, addressed the ceremony. In his speech, Chancellor Hong praised Wu Poh-hsiung for his great contributions to the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, and hoped that with Mr. Wu as an NJU alumnus, Nanjing University would make new contributions in terms of promoting cross-strait exchanges in culture, education and science and technology.

Wu Peiheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, announced the Decision on Conferring an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Law on Wu Poh-hsiung. Prof. Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University and Chairman of NJU Academic Degree Evaluation Committee, presented the certificate of honorary doctorate degree of law to Wu Poh-hsiung.

Wu Poh-hsiung delivered a speech to express his gratitude after receiving the certificate and later exchanged gifts with Nanjing University.

More than 800 people attended the ceremony, including KMT Vice Chairpersons Lin Fong-jheng, Chiang Hsiao-yen, Wu Den-yih and Tseng Yung-chuan, Vice Secretary Wang Guosheng of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, NJU Vice Presidents Shi Jianjun, Min Tiejun and Pan Yi, Vice Chancellors Zhang Yibin, Yang Zhong and Ren Lijian, President Assistants Zhu Qingbao, Yang Mingsheng, Zhou Xian and Wang Dianxiang, some School Council members, alumni representatives and faculty and students of Nanjing University.

Chancellor Hong Yinxing and President Chen Jun had previously met with Wu Poh-hsiung at the Small Auditorium and later accompanied him on his visit to NJU History Museum.
