JU-NYP Second Bilateral Academic Seminar Held at Jiangnan University

The second Bilateral Academic Seminar between Jiangnan University and Nan Yang Polytechnic was held at the Academic Lecture Hall in the library of Jiangnan University on March 25th. Representatives attending the opening ceremony were Professor Wang Wu, Vice President of Jiangnan University, Professor Zhang Hao, Dean of School of Food Science and Technology of Jiangnan University, Dr.

Mathew Lau, Vice Dean of School of Chemical and Life Sciences of Nan Yang Polytechnic, and business representatives of COFCO, Kerry Oil, Firmenich, MCCORMICK, Yurun, Taitaile, Bright Dairy, Danisco, Novozymes, KAIZ, Zhongdeboer and other enterprises.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Zhang Hao, Dean of School of Food Science and Technology of Jiangnan University. At the very beginning, Professor Wang Wu, Vice President of Jiangnan University, and Dr. Mathew Lau, Vice Dean of School of Chemical and Life Sciences of Nan Yang Polytechnic, respectively delivered a speech, and Vice President Wang Wu declared the commencement of the bilateral academic seminar.

Later, Dr. Ding Qingbo, serving in the Scientific Research Institute of COFCO, spoke on behalf of the business community. The theme of the conference was "Meet the University Research in Food Science with Industry Needs". During the conference, 20 representatives from Nan Yang Polytechnic, well-known domestic and foreign food enterprises in China and School of Food Science and Technology of Jiangnan University delivered speeches concerning the R&D situation in the area of food science in institutes of higher learning and enterprises as well.

In 2007, Jiangnan University and Nan Yang Polytechnic signed an inter-school exchanges and cooperation framework agreement in order to realize student exchanges, research cooperation and academic exchanges. In the past two years there were altogether 12 students learning and researching in the opposite university through this project, all of whom were favorably reviewed by both teachers and students of both sides.
The current bilateral academic seminar builds a broader platform for the communication and cooperation between the two sides, meanwhile, it promotes the exchanges between universities and enterprises and cooperation of industries, universities and research institutes in food industry, which will definitely exert a major impact on the development of food industry.
