CQU Overseas Student Promoted to Final of CRI Foreigner Host Competition

The final in Chongqing region of the Global Chinese Carnival Competition hosted by China Radio International and undertaken by Chongqing Broadcasting Group was held at Guanyinqiao CBD, Jiangbei District, at 3:00 p.m. on September 11, 2010. Vietnamese postgraduate Du Feng and Ruan Qiulan from the International Chinese Education of Chongqing University were successfully promoted to top five. They will compete for the national final in Beijing on behalf of Chongqing.

A total of 15 competitors strived for the final in Chongqing region. The competition was composed of self-introduction, Chinese recitation, talent show and comments from the judges. Du s vivid self-introduction with great originality and in fluent Chinese won applause from the audience at the right beginning. Then she continued to keeping a striking impression on judges by her rich-feeling recitation of To the Oak, and traditional Chinese Long Sleeve Dance. Unwilling to lag behind, Ruan Qiulan also fully displayed her potential in hosting by one-minute quick-witted self-introduction. Then she actively communicated with judges and brought the house down with recitation of poem Face the Sea with Spring Blossoms, and her sweet songs.

Chongqing media has paid great attention to this competition and made intensive news coverage for the event. The competition aims to discover the foreigners who can speak fluent Chinese with excellent expressivity while displaying new ideas and talents, and push the development of international broadcasting in China and Chinese promotion in the world. The competition is held in five audition regions. The top five competitors in Chongqing region will compete for the champion crown with those from other regions in Beijing on September 25-28. They may be offered the chance to sign a contract with CRI.
