Ryanair plans to take legal action against the unions responsible for the flash air strikes in Spain. The carrier said it had to cancel 2,500 flights this year and delay a further 13,000, because of Belgian, French and Spanish air traffic control (ATC) strikes and work-to-rule actions.
Ryanair is also asking the EU Commission to remove the right to strike from essential services such as ATC, and to reform passenger rights legislation.
Stephen McNamara, head of communications, Ryanair, likened striking ATC staff as the modern equivalent of highwaymen and said that the airline would now take action against those responsible for the strikes, as reported by TourExpi.
