Cases of yellow fever have been reported from parts of northern Uganda.
The outbreak areas are sufficiently far from the country s national parks and other tourism attractions, so there would appear to be no immediate danger to tourists, according to a report in eTurboNews. However, visitors are being asked to carry a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate; once administered, the vaccine effect lasts for a period of ten years.
The Minister of Health, in conjunction with the World Health Organisation and the CDC, has dispatched medical teams to the area to contain the spread of the mosquito-borne disease. For those intending to visit the region in the imminent future, please visit the website of the Uganda Tourist Board/Tourism Uganda at www.visituganda.com for updated information.
