About 27-people have been reported killed thus far with dozens more injured, as their boat capsized onto rocks on Christmas Island off Australia. The boat is believed to have been carrying asylum seekers, mostly of Middle Eastern origin, according to a report in TourExpi.
Wayne Swan, treasurer and deputy prime minister, Australia, was quoted as having said the number of passengers on the boat was not known yet.
Christmas Island, south of Indonesia, is a regular destination for refugee boats, and is home to Australia's main offshore immigration detention centre.
