The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has lined up plans to increase air capacity, hotels, and investments to infrastructure for 2011-2012, in an effort to double tourism in the country.
The DOT is already on the right track with a 17% rise to 3.52-million international visitor arrivals in 2010. Philippine tourism officials aim to reach six million visitors by 2016. According to a report in eTravel Blackboard, the DOT announced it generated more than five billion US dollars in investments to increase room capacity in the country over the next five years, which would also grow employment in the accommodations sector to an additional 17.782 workers. The tourism board is also focussing on the MICE sector, making projects in the industry a priority.
