A delegation from the British Council visited Xi an Jiaotong-Liverpool University this week, which is a further enhancement of the University's reputation and explaining why it has recently been picked as the best Sino-foreign cooperative University in China.
The group, headed by Gavin Anderson the British Consulate General in Shanghai, was met by Vice President Professor David Sadler, and Dr. Jeanette Henderson and Tom Ennis from the Centre of Academic Affairs.
Mr. Anderson explained the reasoning behind his 6th visit in the past 3 years to XJTLU. Today is an opportunity for those in my office who are familiar with education promotion but not with this University in particular. Hopefully they can come away from today with a better understanding of the place and what I believe is a significant manifestation of British education in China.
The visit began with Professor Sadler giving the delegation an overview of XJTLU s current campus and its projections such as the Engineering and Management building due for completion in 2013. The Model of the campus, located in the Building 1 foyer, allowed the visitors to put XJTLU s plans into perspective and comprehend the scale and particularly the rapid growth it has experienced since its establishment in 2006.
The contingent then proceeded to the presentation room where Prof. Sadler, Dr. Henderson and Mr. Ennis gave an overview of the university and the unique nature of the organisation . Those who were visiting for the first time were very surprised to hear some of the things that are being done, as they had not realised the innovative approach used here commented Mr. Anderson.
Following the presentation, they were taken on a tour around campus and showed some real enthusiasm and astonishment for the University facilities, especially those in the Science building.
