President of Huaqiao University visits XJTLU

Professor Qiu Jin, President of Huaqiao University and his 40-plus entourage paid a visit to Xi an Jiaotong Liverpool University on Feb.13 and received a warm welcom by President Xi, Vice President Yang and Vice President Ding.

President Xi addressed the guests in a speech A Systematic Thought over Reforms of Higher Education and Practice of XJTLU , in which, he elaborated the development of XJTLU and shared with guests the explorations of XJTLU in integrating international education resources and ideas and the efforts made correspondingly in institutional organization, education models, university culture, teaching & learning and research and campus management, etc.

With globalisation, knowledge-intensive economy and information & communications revolution going deeper, higher education is in continuous request for introspection, which calls for new thoughts on the issue of what roles and forms universities are to take to produce quality talents.
In keeping with the development trend of higher education, XJTLU has developed an advanced set of institutional system for modern universities in response to new demands for talents in the world. he added.

Prof. Qiu spoke highly of the great-leap-forward growth XJTLU has achieved. I was strongly impressed with the educational concept of XJTLU of treating students as young adults and producing talents with independent spirit and international perceptions.

The guests were also led to One-Stop Service Center, the Center for Student Entrepreneurship and Placement and science building complex as well as the Administration and Information Building which is under construction.

Huqiao University features tailored to the educational needs of overseas Chinese students and students from Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan. Founded in 1960, it has since been a major base, as approved by the Chinese government, for Chinese language and culture education open to the outside China. It has agreed to cooperate with XJTLU for joint explorations on teaching & learning and research.
