On November 2nd, the 29th lecture of the Optoelectronics Forum was held at 10:30 A.M in Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. Richard Penty, a Professor of Photonics in the Engineering Department, University of Cambridge, was invited to deliver a fabulous lecture entitled InGaAs Quantum-dot Components for Ultrashort Pulse Generation and Switch to the teachers and students attending that day.

In his lecture, Professor Richard Penty began with an introduction to the wide application of semiconductor laser ultrashort pulse generation in various fields including optical communication, all-optical signal processing, terahertz/millimeter wave generation, electro-optic and all-optical sampling, optical clock transmission, biology and medication application and material processing. He then explained in greater length the semiconductor laser ultrashort pulse generation s applications in optical time division multiplexing, digital conversion of optical analog signal, and biophotonics.

After the lecture, Professor Richard Penty was presented with a souvenir CD of the 29th Optoelectronics Forum by Professor Huang Dexiu from the College of Optoelectronic Science and Technology. The question and answer session between Prof. Penty and the students were also carried out in an enthusiastic atmosphere.
