HUST Teachers Won Wuhan Sci and Tech Award for Youth

On Oct.22nd, the Fourth Wuhan Academic Annual Meeting was held in Hankou Wuhan Theatre. Xu Kuangdi, former Shanghai mayor, president and party secretary of CAE the Chinese Academy of Engineering , officials from provincial and city level, and technologists from all circles attended the meeting.

The ceremony first presented awards to winners of the Science and Technology Award, and of the Excellent Academic Thesis Award. Wang Hualin, togehter with eighteen other comrades, was awarded the Science and Technology Award. Gu Yanlong, doctoral supervisor from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in HUST, and Miao Xiaoping, doctoral supervisor of Tongji Public Health School, were awarded the Science and Technology Award.

Professor Gu Yanlong, aged 32, came to HUST in 2008 thanks to the introduction of outstanding youth talent. He pursued his postdoctoral study in the University of Tokyo and then in Poitiers University of the France.

Professor Miao Xiaoping of the School of Public Health, aged 33, was introduced from the University of Hong Kong as an outstanding youth talent. His research areas cover molecular epidemiology and episemiology of complex diseases. He teaches epidemiology and clinical epidemiology.

There are 8 first prizes, 50 second prizes and 149 third prizes listed in the First Wuhan Natural Science Excellent Academic Thesis Award. The thesis of Tao Juan, from the Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, won the first prize. 9 academic theses of experts from HUST won second prizes, and 20 won the third prizes.


After the opening ceremony, academician Xu Kuangdi was invited to give a brilliant speech, named Key Engineering and Technology Issue in the Transformation of Economic Development Approaches.
