HUST Delegation Visited German Universities

From October 23 to 29, HUST Delegation headed by Dr. Luo Qingming, Vice President International, attended the 625th anniversary of Heidelberg University on invitation and visited the other 8 Germany Universities to prepare for the 5th Sino-German University Presidents Meeting to be held in HUST in 2011.

As a major partner university in Germany for HUST, Heidelberg University has been in close collaboration with Tongji Medical College in staff & student exchange, research and teaching reform for over 20 years. On the morning of Oct. 23, right before the ceremony, Dr. Luo Qingming met with Dr. Bernhard Eitel, the President of Heidelberg University, in Bel Etage, the president s office.

Dr. Luo congratulated the university on its great achievements through the past centuries and expressed his willingness to further promote the existing collaboration between the two universities. Dr. Bernhard Eitel also pointed out the traditional friendship should be carried forward and he would continue supporting the existing collaboration.

After the meeting, HUST Delegation was invited to attend the 625th anniversary ceremony. Relevant people from the two sides also discussed about the ideas for the 5th Sino-German University Presidents Meeting.

During the following days, the delegation successively visited Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Tubingen University, Freiberg University, Technical University of Munich, Munich University, Humboldt University of Berlin, Free Berlin University and RWTH Aachen. Through discussions with representatives from those universities, experience and pitfall were summarized for the former meetings and ideas were collected for the coming meeting in terms of discussion topics, funding, etc. Dr.Luo also presented the preliminary ideas of HUST and consensus was reached about some major issues.

During the visits, Luo Qingming also introduced the disciplinary and research development in HUST. In-depth bilateral discussions were made about promoting the exchange and research collaboration. The delegation also took the opportunity to meet some HUST exchange students and visiting scholars in Germany. On October 29, a group of 9 HUST professors headed by Dr. Duan Zhengcheng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, joined the visit to RWTH Aachen. The group visited the Mechanical Department of RWTH Aachen and its Institute of Laser Technology.
